Purpose: The purpose of this document is to assist you in demoing the Arkeia Edgefort VMWare image

I. Prepare

  1. Download

The Edgefort image is available on the Arkeia website: www.arkeia.com. Follow the links to “Try it now” and download the image.

  1. Unzip the Image

Using the unzip program of your choice unzip the Edgefort Image

  1. VMWare Player Setup

Depending on your Operating System, you will need to install and configure VMWare Player. This process varies by Operating System and/or specific distribution. Please consult VMWare Player's site for more details about setting it up and requirements.

  1. VMWare Networking

Arkeia does not recommend a specific networking configuration. Using the VMWare image you have two options. Either NAT or Bridged. NAT is set by default.

-If networking is configured correctly you should be able use the interface. If you have problems connecting to the VM running image, you may need to configure your network properly or use Bridged mode

-Bridged mode is useful on a DHCP network. The running VM image will acquire a DHCP address from the DHCP server. Use this if the NAT configuration does not work for you and you have a DHCP network available.

** Networking VM images is beyond the scope of this document. You should consult VMWare or the Internet if you have a problem with networking your VM to your local machine.

  1. Starting the VMWare image

From the VMWare Player GUI, you should be able to navigate to the Edgefort VMX file. This will start the Edgefort image and allow it to boot.

  1. Get networking information

Be sure to watch the booting image for the networking information, so that you can contact the image. You should be watching for the final line that should appear like this:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Starting web server (apache2)...apache2: Could not reliably determine the server's filly qualified domain name, using XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX for ServerName

Edgefort OS 1.0.X edgefort-vm-10x tty1

edgefort-vm-10x login:

Using the above lines, you can determine what the ip adress is for the VM Edgefort. XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX will be the ip address that the network has assigned.

  1. See the Web GUI

Using Firefox, enter the URL:

http://XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX

This ip address will be the one that you obtained in step 6.

If this does not work, please return to step 4, and change the networking type. If that fails to resolve your problem, please contact VMWare for support, or use the Internet to help resolve your problem.
